3 Agencies to Get New Buses, Minivans

Three agencies are expecting to receive new buses in the coming year thanks to grants administered by the Ventura County Transportation Commission.

The city of Moorpark will use $240,000 in federal funds for two buses that will double its bus system’s capacity by allowing buses to travel in both directions around the city’s bus route, according to Peter DeHaan, director of programming with the county’s transportation commission. Currently, one bus is used throughout the city. The new buses should arrive next spring.

ARC-Ventura County, an association that helps the developmentally disabled, will replace three minivans worth about $129,000. They now have about 38 buses transporting more than 850 disabled people around the county.

HELP of Ojai, a social service agency, will receive $44,500 for a minivan with a mobile radio. “Their transportation is revered in that community, and this will help them expand,” said Sue Munday, manager of senior and disabled programs with the transportation commission. The minivan is expected to arrive next summer, she said.
