Council Candidate Drops Out of Race

City Council candidate Jack Greenberg has dropped out of the race, but his name will remain on the ballot, election officials said.
If Greenberg wins he can either decide to serve his term or he can resign, Assistant Registrar of Voters Bruce Bradley said. If he resigned, the City Council could either call a special election or leave the seat vacant until the next regular election in 2002, Bradley said.
Greenberg was unavailable for comment Tuesday.
“There have been cases where people want to drop out of the race and won and then decided to serve,” Bradley said.
