Republican National Committee Chairman Jim Nicholson on Wednesday condemned a TV ad run by a conservative group that Democrats called race-baiting, suggesting it may have racist overtones.

The RNC initially declined to comment because Nicholson had not seen the letter or the ad.

The commercial, which has aired in Kansas City, Mo., features a woman saying she pulled her son out of public school because there were drugs, violence and “a bit more diversity than he could handle.”

She emphasizes the word “diversity” as a multiracial group of teens is shown hanging out in what looks like an alley.

The ad was produced and paid for by an independent group, Republican Ideas Political Committee, headed by conservative activist and writer Richard Nadler, but it has no ties to the Republican Party.
