The Art of Kakanias

Share

Does Konstantin Kakanias find the execution of his paintings easy (“Meet the Artist’s Very Good . . . Er, Friend,” by Hunter Drohojowska-Philp, Sept. 3)? Does he feel that the ease of his execution is due to his genius?

May I offer that the ease of execution is not due to genius, but due to the lack of skill in execution. (I have known of artists with that characteristic, including art instructors who hide their own pictures for reasons not evident until their own pictures are seen!)

Samuel Johnson said, “A cat can scratch and a child with a nail can scratch.” May I add that Kakanias can scratch! The article was less about his artwork than in the ideas behind them. If ideas that may connect are the hallmarks of great works of art, then editorial art should be highly esteemed. At least editorial art has more depth than the obvious and inane offered by Kakanias!
