The City Council is scheduled to vote today on continuing its multimillion-dollar publicity campaign promoting the annexation of the Marine Corps Air Station at El Toro and its conversion to a regional park.
Council members will consider spending $1.1 million from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31 on mass mailings, television commercials, an interactive Web site, newsletter and community outreach supporting the concept of building Great Park--a plan calling for museums, trails, open space and other public amenities to be built on the former military base.
The council has already approved spending $4.5 million for fiscal 2001 to push the Great Park plan.
The meeting will begin at 3:30 p.m. in the council chamber at City Hall, 1 Civic Center Plaza.
