Retzer’s Goal Lifts Chapman in Soccer

Chris Retzer’s goal midway through the second half proved to be the game-winner as Chapman beat Whittier College, 1-0, in men’s soccer Monday at Chapman.

Retzer recovered a loose ball in front of the Whittier net and beat goalkeeper Aaron McCann for the score.

The goal, in the 75th minute, helped the Panthers stop a three-game losing streak and even their record at 5-5-1. Whittier is 0-8.

Chapman goalkeeper Brandon Avery made two saves in recording his second shutout of the season. The Panthers play Cal State Los Angeles Friday at Chapman.

In nonconference women’s soccer:

Concordia 2, U.S. International 0--Erin Lea scored in the 15th minute, scoring the unassisted goal from five feet out. Evelyn Miles scored in the 51st minute on an assist by Molly Slane.

Concordia had 11 shots on goal.

Crystal Rodriguez had one save in the shutout. Linda Hellburg had four saves for USIU.
