FULLERTON

8pm

Theater

Cal State Fullerton has a professional ringer in the lineup for its production of Anton Chekhov’s 100-year-old classic “The Three Sisters.” Svetlana Efremova, seen earlier this year playing a sexy surrealistic house cat in “References to Salvador Dali Make Me Hot” at South Coast Repertory, will play Masha, one of the titular trio of young women pining for their native Moscow while forced to while away their lives in a dull provincial town. Efremova, an associate professor in the Cal State theater department, should know the turf: She is from Russia and toured internationally for 11 years with the St. Petersburg State Theatre.

* “The Three Sisters” at the Arena Theatre, Cal State Fullerton, 800 N. State College Blvd. Tuesdays through Saturdays, 8 p.m., Saturdays at 2 p.m., except Sept. 30, Sundays at 2 and 6:30 p.m. Ends Oct. 15. $6-$8. (714) 278-3613.

BREA

8pm

Theater

Gender-jumbled Shakespeare has been the rage lately in Orange County, with directors casting Hamlet as a woman at the Grove Theater Center and Kate as a man and Petruchio as a woman in the Rude Guerrilla Theater Company’s “The Taming of the Shrew.” Now comes the Vanguard Theatre Ensemble’s “Twelfth Night,” in which the gender games have been written into the script by the Bard himself. The heroine, Viola, spends most of this romantic comedy disguised as Cesario, leading to a confusion of misplaced affections that all work out, of course, in the end.

ANAHEIM

Anaheim-reared Christian pop singer Crystal Lewis will have a busy holiday season this year. Not only is she working on her first Christmas album, she’ll also be starring as Mary opposite Steven Curtis Chapman’s Joseph in a touring musical “The Child of Promise,” which also will feature former disco queen Donna Summer. But it’s her most recent album, “Fearless,” that brings her back to her home turf with a tour that stops Friday at the Sun Theatre.

* Crystal Lewis, Sun Theatre, 2200 E. Katella Ave., Anaheim. 7:30 p.m. With Out of Eden. $20 to $28. (714) 712-2700.

Now relocated to San Francisco, he’s on a Southern California swing that stops Friday in Fountain Valley.
