Plans to build a three-acre temporary parking lot at the Fullerton Arboretum were nipped in the bud Tuesday--at least for now--when a room full of local horticulturists urged officials to get more information before deciding whether to let the campus pave over the site of the arboretum’s future Mediterranean garden.

Faced with protests from arboretum members, university faculty members and residents, the Arboretum Commission decided Tuesday to wait until a special meeting Nov. 15 to decide whether to let the uncultivated land be paved over for a proposed three years. In the meantime, the commission of residents and university officials asked campus planners to draft a more detailed plan for the lot, including specifications on how the land would be graded and later returned to its natural state once the arboretum wanted it back.
