Rain and Snow Expected as Alaska Storm Nears County
A Pacific storm system is moving into Ventura County, with forecasters predicting rain and snow through the area today.
The rain will be the most significant precipitation since downpours hit the county in early March, leaving floods and mudslides in their wake.
“We have a real dynamic front moving through,” said Bill Hoffer, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard. “It’s cold air coming down from the Gulf of Alaska.”
Gusty winds and areas of dense fog will make for occasionally hazardous driving conditions in higher elevations, he said.
But Hoffer said the storm will be only moderately intense, dropping an inch of rain on Ventura County and 3 to 6 inches of snow at elevations above 4,000 feet. The storm is expected to taper off by tonight.
Hoffer said the showers are not out of the ordinary for April.
Low temperatures today will be in the 40s with highs in the mid-50s.
Scattered showers are forecast for tonight. Sunday is expected to be dry and breezy with temperatures in the mid-50s and nearing 60.
