Two Los Angeles police officers responding to a traffic collision Friday morning ended up in one, authorities said.

Officers Michael Amado, 30, and Ingram Rodriguez, 31, were heading to an accident at Van Nuys and Ventura boulevards at 6:45 a.m. when their car was hit by a Toyota 4Runner, Los Angeles Police Sgt. Robert Courtland said.

After stopping at Woodman Avenue and Magnolia Boulevard, the officers drove through the intersection with sirens blaring and red lights flashing, according to Sgt. Bill Justice of the Valley Traffic Division.

The Toyota, which was heading east on Magnolia, hit the right rear of the police car, Justice said.

Amado, an eight-year LAPD veteran, was admitted to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where he was being treated for neck injuries, a hospital spokeswoman said, adding that he is in fair condition and is expected to be released today.

There were no other injuries.

The incident is still under investigation, Justice said.
