Northridge Sweeps Past Sacramento

Sarah Farnworth allowed one unearned run and eight hits in 16 innings as Cal State Northridge swept Cal State Sacramento, 3-1 and 2-0, in a Big West Conference doubleheader Saturday in Sacramento.

Summer Richardson hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning of the first game. Her bases-loaded ground ball in the first inning was misplayed by third baseman Mary Villalpondo, allowing Veronica Lopez to score the Matadors’ first run.

Sacramento (14-23, 2-6 in conference play) tied the score in the fourth inning on Andrea Becker’s RBI single.

Farnworth allowed six hits and one walk with five strikeouts in the opener. She also had two hits and scored a run.

Colleen Spencer hit an RBI triple and Christen Bedwell followed with an RBI single in the eighth inning of the second game for Northridge (21-19, 5-3).

Farnworth (15-11) allowed two hits with two strikeouts.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Pepperdine 4, Santa Clara 2--Noah Lowry (9-1) pitched a three-hitter and struck out a career-high 15, and the first-place Waves (22-12, 11-3) scored three runs in the ninth inning in a West Coast Conference game at Santa Clara (13-21, 9-5).
