Freeway Sound Walls to Be Discussed

Share

An open house to discuss a series of sound walls that will help block freeway noise from homes along California 126 is scheduled tonight at a local grade school.

Residents interested in the project can talk with Caltrans officials and review displays of the wall from 6 to 8 p.m. at Juanamaria Elementary School, 100 S. Crocker Ave.

State officials plan to erect a series of sound walls this fall on the west side of the freeway, between the Ventura Freeway interchange and Victoria Avenue and between Kimball and Banner avenues.

“It will provide some relief. It’s what they’ve [homeowners] been looking for,” said Caltrans spokesman Joe Brazile Jr.

The project is the result of more than $3 million in state and federal funds that were set aside for sound walls in Ventura, Fillmore and Oxnard. Such concrete block walls are generally 8 to 10 feet tall.
