25 Dogs, 3 Dead Animals Removed From Ontario Home
Animal control officials discovered 25 severely abused dogs amid feces and the carcasses of at least three other dogs in an Ontario home Thursday.
The resident, Patricia Fraus, initially refused to allow officers inside the home, so a search warrant was obtained, said Brian Sampson, supervisor of animal services for the Inland Valley Humane Society and SPCA.
Inside, the officers found mounds of months-old feces and a number of ailing animals, including 18 purebred St. Bernards, two St. Bernard mixes, one German shepherd mix, one Pomeranian, one sheltie and one cocker spaniel.
The dogs were taken to shelters in Pomona, he said.
In the garage, two St. Bernard carcasses and two travel kennels containing the remains of other dead dogs were found, he said.
An anonymous caller tipped animal control officials to the situation, Sampson said.
Fraus, who has not been arrested, could face multiple counts of animal cruelty and neglect, operating an illegal kennel and violations of codes governing the number of animals allowed on private property, he said.
