A 19-year-old Sylmar man died of gunshot wounds early Friday after he was shot several times in his car outside Panorama Mall in Panorama City, authorities said.

Luis Andres Esqueda was found Thursday night by police slumped in his car with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper torso, said Officer Jason Lee of the Los Angeles Police Department.

A resident phoned police at 10:24 p.m. after hearing gunshots and a car speeding off, Lee said. Esqueda was taken to Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where he was pronounced dead at 3:50 a.m.

Lt. Tim Moss of the LAPD’s Devonshire Division said Esqueda backed his car into a stop sign pole on Tobias Street after he was shot.

Police said Friday they had no witnesses or motive but asked anyone with information to contact Devonshire Division homicide detectives at (818) 756-8291.

In a separate incident Friday morning in Panorama City, a woman was hit by a stray bullet from a gang-related shooting at a bus stop, Lee said.

The shooting occurred about 10 a.m. near a fast-food business in the 9000 block of Van Nuys Boulevard, Lee said.

The wounded woman was hospitalized in stable condition.

Lee said a gang member fired a shot at another man during an argument, but hit the woman instead. He said there are no suspects yet in the shooting.
