President Names a New Cabinet
Asserting his independence, Congolese President Joseph Kabila named a new Cabinet that excludes key members of his slain father’s government, state TV reported.
The interior, education and information ministers--all close allies of the late President Laurent Kabila--were dismissed from the young leader’s 25-member Cabinet. Five others retained their posts.
Kabila’s abrupt dismissal last week of his father’s Cabinet raised hopes for a new start in this central African country.
Laurent Kabila was shot and killed in January by one of his bodyguards. The exact circumstances and motive remain a mystery.
