Three people were injured, one seriously, when a single-engine plane that took off from Camarillo Airport crashed while trying to make an emergency landing in a hilly area south of California 138 on Wednesday, authorities said.

The four-seat Cessna lost power and crash-landed about 2:20 p.m. near 170th Street West west of Lancaster, said Lt. Larry Gump of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Santa Clarita station.

Pilot Gerald Dolin, 55, of Ventura called his son, who called the Sheriff’s Department, Gump said.

Dolin and his passengers, Paul and Lynn Stilwell, both 52, of Thousand Oaks, were flown to UCLA Medical Center. Lynn Stilwell suffered head and back injuries and fractures, and her husband and Dolin had cuts and bruises, Gump said.
