2 Men Killed in Police Stakeout
Plainclothes Anaheim police detectives on a stakeout in neighboring Garden Grove shot and killed two men after they tried to rob an El Pollo Loco restaurant Thursday night.
The detectives had followed the suspects to the restaurant after trailing them throughout the day in connection with a series of robberies in Anaheim, police spokesman Sgt. Rick Martinez said.
“The suspects went into El Pollo Loco and, as detectives were outside, we understand a robbery was taking place,” Martinez said.
“As they left, the officers attempted to stop them. The subjects were in their vehicle, they tried to flee, they resisted arrest, the officers were involved in a shooting,” he said.
Garden Grove police confirmed that the two men died of their injuries.
