5 Hurt When Plane Hits Turbulence

LAS VEGAS — Five people were injured Thursday when an America West aircraft hit turbulence over the Colorado-New Mexico border on a flight from New York City to Las Vegas.
Two passengers and two flight attendants were taken to University Medical Center in Las Vegas after the A320 Airbus landed safely at McCarran International Airport at 11:15 a.m., airport spokeswoman Debbie Millett said. Flight 7 originated from John F. Kennedy International Airport.
“I’m shaken up a bit,” injured passenger Jody Lapasota, 44, of Port Jefferson, N.Y. “I flew up about 2 1/2 feet and hit my head on the baggage compartment.”
All four of the injured at the hospital were women and were expected to be treated andreleased, said spokesman Rick Plummer.
