Boy, 14, Opens Fire at School; No One Hurt
- Share via
A 14-year-old opened fire on faculty and fellow students at an alternative school in Monroe, authorities said. But his handgun misfired after four shots, and no one was injured.
The boy was disarmed and arrested after two police officers rushed him, school district spokeswoman Kelly McGee said. Each student at the Sherrouse Alternative School, set up for children removed from regular classrooms because of behavioral problems, is checked in each morning by faculty members and the principal and must pass through a metal detector, McGee said. It was unclear how the boy got a gun into the auditorium.
