The Indigo Girls are returning to their duo roots for a brief tour starting in July to precede September studio sessions for their ninth album, tentatively due in February. Concert dates include a July 28 stop at the Sun Theatre in Anaheim. After that, Indigos Emily Saliers (who’s been running her Watershed restaurant-bar in Decatur, Ga.) and Amy Ray (who’s been doing a solo tour) will move away from their roots in October, collaborating with choreographer Margo Sappington and the Atlanta Ballet for a six-show Atlanta performance featuring live music by the pair and their full band ....

A new Jimi Hendrix collection, “Voodoo Child,” is being put together to be sold primarily via a TV/direct response campaign, with Hendrix fan Henry Rollins doing the voiceovers for the ads. The package will feature two CDs: an 18-song studio disc (including six alternate versions of familiar songs) and a live disc that will include five previously unreleased recordings. The set is due in stores May 8 ....

The Mavericks have officially called it quits, and leader Raul Malo will start work in May on his first solo album. The album will be recorded in Los Angeles with Los Lobos’ Steve Berlin producing and all the songs to be recorded live in studio. It will be all original material, moving Malo more in a pop-rock direction rather than focusing on his former band’s country-rock roots.
