Man Shot in Drive-By Outside Party
An Oxnard man was shot in the face late Friday as he and two friends drove up to a party in the 2100 block of Johnson Drive in Ventura, police said.
Francisco Javier Rivera Jr., 20, was in serious condition Saturday at Ventura County Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Rivera was with Miguel Alvarez-Simential and Juan Correa, both 20, when they stopped at the party about 11:45 p.m., Ventura Police Det. Nancy Schindler said.
As the car slowed a black sedan pulled up and someone inside fired several rounds from a handgun. Rivera was struck once in the face, Schindler said. Correa then drove the wounded man to the hospital.
Schindler said it was unknown how many people were in the other car or whether the victims were the intended targets.
The black sedan was last seen heading westbound on Crowley Drive.
Schindler said police have no suspects and were unable to gather much useful information from witnesses at the scene.
