2 on Council Fight Bid to Honor Mayor

Share

Los Angeles City Council members opposed to renaming the downtown Central Library after Mayor Richard Riordan will try Tuesday to revoke the honor bestowed last week by the Library Commission.

Councilwomen Rita Walters and Cindy Miscikowski are co-sponsoring a measure to veto the action of Riordan’s appointees on the Library Commission and send it back for reconsideration.

The council members have a tough fight to gain the 10 votes needed for a veto. Even if they succeed, the Library Commission could simply ignore it and ratify its renaming of the library, but the move could still prove embarrassing to the mayor.
