The British colony pledged to improve crime prevention at hotels after an increase in sexual assaults on women, both tourists and residents.

Police Commissioner Jonathan Smith said earlier this month that assaults had increased in the first three months of this year compared with last year, adding that overall, violent crimes were at the lowest rate in seven years.

Smith spoke on the same day that about 500 people marched through Bermuda’s capital to protest the attacks, and police announced that a 25-year-old local woman had been sexually assaulted. Also this month, an English tourist said she was sexually assaulted by a taxi driver.
