Student ID Cards Bring Discounts

One of the great things about being a young traveler is that people younger than 26 are eligible for thousands of discounts around the world for transportation, museums and accommodations.

In Prague, Czech Republic, students who have an International Student Identity Card (ISIC) or travelers younger than 26 who have an International Youth Travel Card (IYTC) save 50% on admission to Prague Castle and 20% on tickets for Opera Mozart.

The ISIC was created 40 years ago by the International Student Travel Confederation as internationally recognized proof of full-time student status. To help you locate discounts, your ISIC card comes with the free Student Travel Handbook, a country by country guide to ISIC benefits.

The International Youth Travel Card is for travelers who are not full-time students but who are younger than 26.

It is honored for discounts on rail passes and entrance fees to museums and cultural events.

Both ISIC and IYTC are available through student travel agencies. The ISIC ($22) is valid until Dec. 31 and must be purchased again for the following year. An IYTC card (also $22) is valid for one year from the date of purchase. The cards are administered by the International Student Travel Confederation; details are at https://www.istc.org.
