As McLean Lengthens His Rehab Stay, Backstreet Boys Cancel Local Date

Backstreet Boy member A.J. McLean will extend his stay in a rehab program, forcing the superstar pop group to postpone or cancel 10 more concert dates, including its Aug. 16 show at the Forum in Inglewood and Aug. 18 date at the Glen Helen Blockbuster Pavilion in Devore.

The Devore show will be moved to Oct. 13, but the Forum performance will not be rescheduled. Refunds will be available for the latter at the point of purchase.

The singing group previously had announced it would return to the road on Aug. 7 with a show in Vancouver, but now is pointing to Aug. 24 in Milwaukee as its first show back on the Black & Blue tour.

“A.J.’s initial treatment is going very well,” fellow Backstreet member Kevin Richardson said Tuesday. “His doctors have suggested it would be in A.J.’s best interest to take an additional two weeks in transitional care.”

The group announced on July 9 that McLean would be seeking treatment in a 30-day program for alcohol abuse, depression and anxiety.

The five-member harmony group has considered resuming its tour without McLean but would rather wait, members have said in interviews.
