“Circus Orchestra,” presented by Cirque Eloize and the Pacific Symphony, combines circus arts, contemporary dance and live symphonic music. The show, which plays the Irvine Barclay Theatre through Sunday, features 15 circus performers specializing in aerial movement, rings, contortion, trapeze, hand-balancing and the giant German wheel. The 70-minute performance will be held five times during the run.

The Hollywood Film Festival kicks off its fifth annual appearance with tonight’s invitation-only screening of Christopher Monger’s “Girl From Rio,” starring Hugh Laurie. Public screenings begin Friday and run through Sunday at Paramount and Raleigh Studios, featuring an international lineup of films from Australia, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the U.S. Highlights include Eva Gardos’ “American Rhapsody” and the closing-night film, Woody Allen’s “Curse of the Jade Scorpion.” Parallel to the festival is the Hollywood Film Conference, a four-day event beginning today at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, which includes panels, seminars and networking opportunities with industry professionals. The festival is capped by Monday night’s Hollywood Movie Awards gala at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Pianist-composer Chick Corea first gained prominence in the late ‘60s when he played with jazz legend Miles Davis. Since then he’s performed in dozens of other creative musical endeavors. Tonight the Chick Corea New Trio continues a weeklong stint at Catalina’s Bar & Grill.

New Orleans rapper Mystikal leads a gallery of hip-hop hit makers into the Universal Amphitheatre tonight on the Seagram’s Gin Live concert tour. Originally, rappers Ginuwine and Juvenile were slated to perform together at the venue on July 13, but that show was merged with tonight’s to give fans a meatier bill with eight acts.
