A UC Santa Barbara religious studies professor and her husband were arrested after narcotics detectives found 58 marijuana plants at their home.

Ines Maria Talamantez turned herself in at the Santa Barbara Police Station on Friday. Vernon Herbert Kjonegaard, a self-employed publisher, was arrested at the couple’s home.

The couple face charges of marijuana possession and cultivation, said Sgt. Gil Torres.

In addition to the plants, 38 grams of packaged marijuana were recovered inside the home. There is no indication that the couple was selling the drug, said the Police Department.
