Two Die After Campus Workouts
Two young men collapsed and died, possibly from heat exhaustion, while working out Thursday on separate college campuses in Orange County, authorities said.
Juan Pena, 24, of Garden Grove was pronounced dead about 12:15 p.m. at West Anaheim Medical Center after collapsing while jogging on the track at Cypress College, said Joseph Luckey, a spokesman for the Orange County coroner’s office. Pena worked as a drugstore clerk and was not a student at the college, Luckey said.
About 6 p.m., Brian Sweet, 19, of Costa Mesa died while exercising on outdoor gym equipment at Orange Coast College, where he was on the rowing team, Luckey said.
Autopsies are scheduled today for both men, Luckey said.
