County Plans Overhaul of Youth Center
County officials released a plan that calls for more managerial oversight and a streamlined way to handle troubled youths at MacLaren Children’s Center in El Monte.
The report released Friday came amid allegations that children have been injured by staff members at the center for abused and emotionally troubled youths.
The report will be presented to the county Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.
Under the plan, MacLaren Director John Robbins would have full responsibility for the shelter and its budget and the power to fire or transfer staff.
And the county would assign one caseworker to each child. Each caseworker would be responsible for 10 children.
