A manicurist was kidnapped by her ex-boyfriend Wednesday morning after he fired an automatic weapon into the ceiling of a Long Beach nail salon and dragged her out, police said.

A sense of urgency grew when the victim had not been located by late Wednesday, said Long Beach Police Officer Jana Blair.

The victim is Tran Huynh, 25, of Signal Hill, who had obtained a restraining order Tuesday against Nguyen Thai of Pomona because he allegedly menaced her with unwanted visits to the salon, Blair said.

The two briefly lived together, Blair said, but she did not know how long ago they broke up.

About 10:30 a.m., Thai arrived at the salon in the 5400 block of Cherry Avenue and fired a shot into the ceiling, Blair said.

“She tried to go to the back of the salon, but he followed her and grabbed her, and pulled her out to his car,” Blair said.

The car was described as a silver, late-1980s Honda Civic or Accord, license plate T787721, possibly an Illinois plate.

Blair described Thai as 24 or 25 years old, and Huynh as 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighing 120 pounds. Detectives did not find them at the suspect’s home in Pomona.

For the last few weeks, co-workers told police, Thai had been making unwelcome visits to the salon, prompting Huynh to get a restraining order.
