Klondike Commute

Your article “Alaska Shore Excursions Can Pan Out--if You Weigh Options” (Cruise Views, Aug. 5) quite properly praised Skagway’s nearby White Pass & Yukon Railway as an experience not to be missed.
But this line, built to provide access over the mountain to the Klondike gold fields, becomes even more exhilarating if you return via bus through Liarsville. This name, conferred by the miners, referred to journalists who chose the comfort of Liarsville over the discomfort--and danger--of going over the mountain for accurate reportage on the Gold Rush.
