Firefighters Battle Blaze Near Lake Tahoe

Steep terrain was hampering about 800 firefighters in their battle Sunday against a Sierra forest fire that was sending thick smoke over the Reno-Tahoe area.
U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman Dana Walsh said the 3,000-acre Star Fire was burning along the Middle Fork American River in the Eldorado and Tahoe national forests about 25 miles west of Lake Tahoe.
No homes were threatened and no major injuries were reported.
The blaze prompted an evacuation of campers at two Forest Service campgrounds--Hellhole and French Meadows--and the closure of five mountain roads.
“We have no containment on the fire at this point,” Walsh said Sunday evening.
