A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting and strangling a 63-year-old doctor who had planned to retire and return to the Philippines, authorities said.

Jammie Hendrix, 31, was arrested Aug. 21 in the April death of Dr. Lourdes Unson after being spotted at a skid row park, said Los Angeles police Det. Brian McCartin of the robbery-homicide division.

Police found Hendrix’s fingerprints in Unson’s apartment, McCartin said. Detectives also found that jewelry pawned by Hendrix in Texas, where he moved for a short while, belonged to the slain doctor, McCartin said.
