Shortstop Nomar Garciaparra, struggling with soreness following wrist surgery, flew to Boston for an MRI and was awaiting results before rejoining the Red Sox.

Garciaparra, who had surgery on his right wrist in April, played against Texas on Sunday even though he was sore after Boston’s 18-inning, 8-7 loss to the Rangers on Saturday night.

“He probably shouldn’t have played on Sunday,” Red Sox Manager Joe Kerrigan said Tuesday. “But he kept quiet and wanted to play. He didn’t want to let his teammates down.” Kerrigan said the club was awaiting MRI results and didn’t know when Garciaparra would rejoin the team.
