2 Fired, 326 Disciplined in Foreign Ministry Probe
Japanese Foreign Minister Makiko Tanaka announced the results of a corruption probe in her ministry, saying she dismissed two diplomats and disciplined 326 others, including herself.
Tanaka told a news conference that 328 ministry officials were found to have appropriated a total of more than $1.6 million in government money for personal spending over a 6 1/2-year period.
Though she assumed control of the ministry in April, long after much of the alleged misconduct occurred, Tanaka said she will take a one-month salary cut.
