UCLA Falls Hard to Utah

Michelle Greco made six of 12 shots and scored 13 points, but the rest of the Bruins made only 10 of 53 shots and UCLA fell, 89-42, to Utah in a nonconference game at Salt Lake City.

Lauren Beckman had 19 points, Erin Gibbons had 17 and Lindsay Herbert added 15 for Utah (4-2), which built a 40-23 lead at halftime.

UCLA (3-2) was outrebounded, 49-32 and committed 16 turnovers that led to 16 points by Utah.

No. 13 Georgia 77, UNLV 62--Freshman Kara Braxton had 19 points and nine rebounds to lead the Bulldogs to victory in the first round of the Oakland Tribune Classic.

UNLV (4-1) had a 47-38 with 13:11 remaining, but Georgia (4-0) went on a 15-4 run to take a 53-51 lead on Tina Taylor’s jumper with 10:13 left. Linda Frolich scored 16 of her game-high 27 points in the first half for the Rebels.

No. 19 Florida 78, Creighton 67--Brandi McCain had 23 points and Vanessa Hayden had 20 points, 18 rebounds and five blocked shots for the Gators in the opening round of the Tulane Invitational tournament at New Orleans.

Florida (4-2) survived 22 turnovers and 11 three-pointers by Creighton (1-3). Courtney Cooper added 16 points for Florida, which held a 55-35 rebounding advantage.

Rice 67, No. 22 George Washington 54--Elisa Inman had 20 points and 13 rebounds to help Rice (5-0) remain unbeaten with the victory at Houston. Kara Liggitt scored 11 points and made three of six three-pointers for the Owls. George Washington (2-3) fell behind early and trailed, 34-20, at the half. Elena Vishniakova had 12 points and 13 rebounds for George Washington.
