Your Mission: Win Cruising Rights to This

We aren’t sure just what you’d do with a hot motorcycle that comes complete with a broken taillight and bullet holes in the body panels and rearview mirror. But if the thought excites, here’s your chance.

The 955-cc, three-cylinder Triumph Speed Triple that actor Tom Cruise and his stunt double--mostly his stunt double--rode in the movie “M:I-2,” the follow-up to “Mission: Impossible,” is being offered on New Line Cinema’s Internet auction site, with bidding set to close at 1 p.m. Dec. 18.

The studio says the Triumph being auctioned is one of the two surviving 110-horsepower bikes used in the movie--”in some of the film’s most breathtaking scenes,” to quote the official hype. And it comes with the cosmetic changes, including fake bullet holes, that the film’s special effects artists effected for authenticity.

New Line said the bike has been inspected and checked for safety by a Triumph dealer and comes with a certificate of authenticity from the movie maker. It would need a new taillight and mirror to be street-legal.

The studio devotes some of the proceeds from items auctioned on its site to the Legal Aid Society, City Meals on Wheels and the League for the Hard of Hearing.

Bidding on the “M:I-2” bike started Tuesday at https://www.auction.newline.com. The ultimate value of the hard-ridden bike will be determined by the fervor of the movie or motorcycle buffs out there.

For comparison, a new Triumph Speed Triple with no movie credentials--but no miles on the motor, no holes in the body panels and an intact rear taillight and rearview mirror--carries a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $9,799.
