A Tujunga man accused of being the “Foothill rapist” pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges he sexually assaulted four women in their homes in Pasadena and Glendale.

Clifton Hutchins, 34, appearing in Pasadena Superior Court, was held in lieu of $4.5-million bail pending a Jan. 8 preliminary hearing.

Hutchins is charged with four counts of rape, five counts of burglary and one count each of possession of cocaine for sale and misdemeanor prowling.

Authorities say he broke into the women’s homes and committed rapes on June 27, Aug. 15 and Nov. 3 in Pasadena and on Oct. 16 in Glendale. He also is accused of a May 11 Pasadena break-in.

Glendale police arrested Hutchins on Nov. 7 on suspicion of prowling. He was freed on $500,000 bail but rearrested the next day, after DNA evidence and a palm print tied him to the alleged rapes, authorities said.
