From Times Staff Reports

Ventura County Clerk-Recorder Richard Dean announced Wednesday that he will not seek reelection to his $110,420-a-year post in the March primary.

Dean, 58, has served 20 years. His term ends in January 2003.

“There isn’t any one reason,” Dean said. “It’s just something you know when the time comes.”

Dean follows Dist. Atty. Michael D. Bradbury and Treasurer-Tax Collector Harold S. Pittman, who also announced they are retiring.

Dean will endorse his top assistant, Philip J. Schmit. The filing deadline for candidates is Wednesday.
