A City Council candidate has been acquitted of charges that he falsely declared that he lived in the city.

John Taylor, 51, a retired businessman, was indicted May 7 by a grand jury on two felony charges of submitting false nomination papers for the November 2000 election.

Prosecutors alleged that Taylor lives in an unincorporated area but, in order to run for a council seat, stated that he lived in Yorba Linda.

The defense argued that any mistakes Taylor made were due to inexperience.

A jury Wednesday found Taylor not guilty.
