U.S. Acquires Large Private Redwood Grove
From Staff and Wire Reports
The world’s largest privately held sequoia grove has been added to this park in the southern Sierra Nevada, closing a $10.3-million deal proposed last year.
The 1,540 acres of ancient trees and second-growth sequoia known as the Dillonwood Grove were added to the park’s southern edge when a conservation group completed the purchase last week.
Financing included $5 million from the federal government, $1 million from the Packard Foundation, and gifts from the Oracle Foundation, Goldman Foundation and San Francisco Foundation.
