CNN, MTV Ally to Keep Viewers

Share

TV executives have been heartened by the younger viewers who have been tuning in to news, which traditionally appeals more to older viewers, since the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

CNN is trying to retain some of those viewers with an unusual collaboration with the young-adult music channel MTV.

Starting tonight and running all week, the two networks will team up for a series of news reports on the life of Afghan youth.

CNN correspondent Jason Bellini, a former member of MTV’s “Choose or Lose 2000” Street Team that covered that year’s presidential election, will ask Afghan youth questions posed by Americans who were taped by an MTV News crew in New York City.

Topics include music, religion, how Afghanistan’s young people perceive Americans and what they are doing to rebuild their country.

The daily reports will air on “MTV Daily News” at 8:50 p.m. and CNN’s “NewsNight with Aaron Brown” at 7 p.m.
