Tom Barrasso returned to Pittsburgh on Sunday and both teams made things as comfortable for him as possible.

Rod Brind’Amour had a goal and four assists and Ron Francis scored twice as the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Penguins, 7-0.

Barrasso had to make only 11 saves in his first game against Pittsburgh in more than 13 years. It was his second shutout this season and 37th of his career.

“I didn’t do much, in all honesty,” Barrasso said. “I can’t say enough about the way the guys in front of me played. I’ve been doing this for a long time and that’s one of the best efforts I’ve ever seen a team put forth.”

The Penguins tied the franchise mark for fewest shots in a game, matching the total of a 3-0 loss at Boston on March 27, 1977. They set a franchise mark for fewest shots in a home game. The record had been 14 in a 3-1 win over St. Louis on Jan. 19, 2000.

Barrasso had not played against Pittsburgh since Oct. 12, 1988. The Buffalo Sabres traded him to the Penguins a month after that game and he remained with Pittsburgh until he was dealt to Ottawa on March 31, 2000.
