L.A., Long Beach Port Imports Up in November

Imports through the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach increased in November from the same month a year ago. Exports for the month fell.

Combined imports to the nation’s top two seaports rose 3.8% last month to 428,000 containers from 412,500 in November 2000. Outbound shipments declined 4.6% to 165,600 containers from 173,600.

The rise in imports reflects reduced prices and a surge in shipments to the Port of Los Angeles as the No. 1 U.S. destination attracted business away from other West Coast ports, said Al Fierstine, director of marketing for the harbor.
