Convict’s Father Arrested in Escape
The father of one of the seven escaped Texas convicts was arrested on charges of supplying the getaway car.
Raul Rodriguez, the father of Michael A. Rodriguez, was arrested and jailed along with a friend, Patsy Gomez, on $700,000 bail. A third person was being sought.
“We assume father and son were communicating by letter and possibly a third party who may have visited Rodriguez in prison,” said Larry Todd, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. “We believe they had been planning the escape for at least six months and probably longer.”
Todd said investigators believe the elder Rodriguez, 61, furnished the money to buy the Chevy Suburban used as the getaway car. Todd said Gomez, 41, made the purchase.
