Wal-Mart Employee Injured in Carjacking

A Wal-Mart employee was carjacked Saturday night in the store’s parking lot and forced to drive to a nearby industrial area, where she was repeatedly choked before the assailant fled, police said.

The victim, whom police declined to identify, suffered bruises to her neck and bleeding in her eyes, said Oxnard Police Sgt. Marty Meyer.

The victim drove to a police station after the attack and was being treated at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard. Her injuries were not life threatening, Meyer said.

Details were sketchy, but Meyer said the carjacking occurred about 9:15 p.m. at the shopping center near the intersection of Rose Avenue and Gonzales Road.

The victim was approached by a masked man armed with a chrome semiautomatic handgun. The assailant forced her to drive to an area near Pacific Avenue and 5th Street, where she was attacked. The assailant then fled south on Pacific Avenue, Meyer said.
