Krupansky Two-Step Lifts Newbury Park

Jon Krupansky of Newbury Park High set the school season scoring record and the Panthers took a one-point lead in the Marmonte League boys’ soccer standings with a 3-0 victory Wednesday at Agoura.

Krupansky scored two goals and has 30 this season, surpassing the mark of 29 set in 1994 by Brian Collins, who is an assistant coach at Newbury Park.

The Panthers led, 2-0, at halftime and outshot Agoura, 21-6, for its fourth consecutive shutout. Goalkeeper Joey Smith had two saves.

Newbury Park (17-4-2, 9-1-1 in league play) can clinch the league title with a tie or victory in Friday’s regular-season finale against Thousand Oaks.

Krupansky, who assisted on Wilber Rodriguez’s goal in the third minute, gave Newbury Park a 2-0 lead in the 26th minute.

L.A. Baptist 4, Village Christian 0--Jared Thornton scored three goals, all in the first half, for the Knights in an Alpha League game at Village Christian.

Robbie Krohn scored his 19th goal of the season and had three assists.

Cameron Squirre made three saves for his sixth shutout of the season for L.A. Baptist (12-5-4, 4-3-1).

Loyola 1, Crespi 1--Brian Schirripa scored the tying goal off a corner kick with 10 minutes left for the Celts (16-5-1, 7-3-1) in a Mission League game at Loyola.

Poly 8, Verdugo Hills 2--Sammy Moya scored four of his six goals in the first half for the Parrots (8-8, 5-3-1) in a Sunset Six League game at Verdugo Hills.

Moya scored on three penalty kicks and has 20 goals in 13 games.

Lancaster 3, Littlerock 1--Leo Arabia, Jonathan Collins and Justin Keeney scored in the first half for the Eagles (14-4-2, 6-2-1) in a Golden League game at Littlerock.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Nordhoff 3, Calabasas 1--Lauren Gesselman, Jackie Ramirez and Adi Miller scored for the Rangers (15-7-2, 8-0) who clinched their third consecutive Frontier League title at Nordhoff.

Defenders Lacey Albrent and Alicia Cattoni helped limit Calabasas (14-9-1, 7-2) to 11 shots.

Westlake 5, Moorpark 0--Lauren Baer scored twice and the Warriors (14-0-4, 10-0-1) clinched the Marmonte League title at Moorpark.

Canoga Park 3, Hollywood 0--Kimberly Quijano scored twice and the Hunters (6-6-3, 5-2-2) won a Sunset Six League game at Hollywood.

Chaminade 2, Louisville 1--Loretta Younkin scored from 35 yards six minutes into overtime and the Eagles clinched a share of the Mission League title at Crespi.

Kim Taylor scored her 24th goal of the season for Chaminade (17-4-2, 9-0).

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

Pasadena 10, Canyons 2--Kortney Downey doubled home Stephanie Blair and scored on Monique Abourched’s single in the fifth inning for the Cougars (2-3), who lost a nonconference game shortened by the mercy rule at Pasadena.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Glendale 87, Citrus 72--Nate Johnson had 19 points for the Vaqueros in a Western State Conference Southern Division victory at Citrus.

Michael Schnyder scored his 14 points in the second half for Glendale (18-9, 6-3).

Valley 69, Bakersfield 64--Michael Crawford scored 19 points for the Monarchs (19-10, 8-1) in a WSC Southern Division victory at Bakersfield.
