Murray Backs Away From Selfish Words

Share

When the smoke had cleared--the smoke coming out of his ears--Andy Murray wanted to clear the record.

Moments after his team had blown a two-goal lead against the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday night and had to settle for a 3-3 tie, Murray used the word “selfish” in describing some of his players.

“I was speaking in anger,” the Kings’ coach said. “They might appear to be selfish sometimes, but they are not. They think they are helping the team.

“I don’t think anybody on this team makes a decision that they don’t think will help the team.”

And what did they do to appear selfish?

“They try to score when they should be defending,” Murray said. “They turn low-risk situations into high-risk ones. They stay out on the ice too long.”

That would definitely appear to be selfish.

Defenseman Rob Blake sat out Thursday night because of a contusion of the right shoulder, an injury suffered in the overtime of Tuesday night’s game.

He is listed as day-to-day.

Nothing new there. That has been Blake’s status since he went on the trading block because of a stalemate over contract negotiations.

Winger Ziggy Palffy missed Thursday night’s game because of flu. After missing practice Wednesday, Palffy showed up Thursday, but went home still sick.

This is the sixth game of an eight-game home stand. Still to come are Washington on Saturday and Edmonton on Monday.
