An adult son of Simi Valley Police Chief Randy Adams was sentenced to two days in jail and ordered to pay $400 Friday for beating up a motorist during a traffic dispute in Camarillo.

Reed Adams, 24, pleaded guilty to an infraction for disturbing the peace, reduced from a misdemeanor, said his attorney Louis “Chuck” Samonsky. Adams, who had already served two days in custody, was sentenced to the time already served.

His brother, Ryan Adams, 21, pleaded guilty last week to fighting in a public place and was sentenced to five days in jail. Prosecutors in that case dropped a battery charge.

The incident occurred June 28 on Santa Rosa Road. The confrontation, involving both Adams brothers and the passenger of another vehicle--identified as William Coble--began after the vehicles collided and Coble’s wife made an obscene gesture to the men, police said.

The drivers pulled to the side of the road and the three men began fighting. Reed Adams and Coble had minor injuries, police said.

Samonsky said he was pleased with the sentence.

“We were considering contesting at trial, but this was an offer you can’t refuse,” Samonsky said.
