1 Dies After Shooting on Foothill Freeway

Shots fired on the westbound Foothill Freeway in Pasadena left one person dead and another wounded Friday afternoon, police said.

The shooting, which occurred near Hill Avenue about 4 p.m., forced the closure of the westbound lanes of the freeway for about two hours, said Pasadena Police Lt. Mike Korpal.

“We have a pretty large crime scene,” he added. As many as three cars were involved, he added.

But police were left with more questions than answers as to what happened.

Korpal said two of the cars were in police hands, but the third, described as an orange pickup with an extended cab and no rear bumper, was still being sought. It’s unclear whether the pickup’s occupants were involved or simply trying to flee the gunfire, he said.

One wounded man died at Glendale Adventist Medical Center, Korpal said. Glendale police officers were at the medical center on an unrelated matter and detained two men who were with the gunshot victim, Sgt. Tom Kuh said.

Pasadena police were questioning them, but it was unclear whether the two were involved in the shooting, Korpal said.

Another wounded man, a 24-year-old Los Angeles resident, was driven to a Pasadena-area fire station, dropped off and taken by paramedics to Huntington Memorial Hospital, Korpal said. He underwent surgery and was in serious condition, Korpal said.

The names of the wounded had not been released, pending notification of relatives.
